MICRO-NEEDLING
Celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie are known fans of the innovative treatment, Micro-needling. Micro-needling induces Collagen production which improves skin tone/texture, and reduces pigmentation, wrinkles, pore size, acne scars, traumatic scars, & stretch marks.
You ask, what is Collagen? Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is found in our muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels, digestive system, and tendons. It’s what helps give our skin strength and elasticity, along with replacing dead skin cells. Factors that slow down our bodies collagen production include, aging, eating a diet high in sugar, smoking, and high amounts of sun exposure.
Micro-needling involves the use of tiny sterile needles to safely and precisely create controlled micro-injuries to the skin, triggering new collagen to be produced. The treatment can be performed on all parts of the body: Face, Neck, and Abdomen. The procedure is performed by an RN and takes approximately 45 minutes.
Benefits of Micro-Needling:
Improves skin tone & texture
Reduces the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
Creates a youthful healthy facial glow
Reduces pore size
Reduces Hyper-pigmentation & Hypo-pigmentation
Reduces the appearance of acne or traumatic scars
Micro-Needling FAQ:
Does Micro-Needling hurt?
Deeper micro-needling treatments can be uncomfortable so a topical anesthetic will be applied ahead of time to reduce any discomfort. On average our clients report a discomfort level a 2 out of 10 on a 0-10 pain scale. More superficial treatments are well-tolerated without any anesthetic.
What does the treatment involve?
It begins with cleaning and numbing the skin. A collagen-stimulating product, Hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin. A small pen with 12 tiny needles is used to create tiny wounds in the skin. The speed and adjustability of the needles allows for more effective piercing and absorption of skin products. A Hyaluronic acid collagen boosting mask is also applied after the procedure to hydrate, heal, and protect the skin.
What will I look like immediately after treatment and is there any downtime?
Immediately after a micro-needling treatment the skin can appear flushed like a light sunburn to deeper pink with pinpoint bleeding for deeper treatments. Typically any redness will resolve within 1–2 days. Make-up can be applied 24 hours post treatment.
What are the possible side effects?
Mild discomfort and redness are common effects. Although extremely rare, treatments could lead to a cold sore reactivation or other infection, formation of granulomas (small bumps under the skin), long lasting color change or scarring.
Can Micro-Needling be performed on any skin color?
Micro-needling is safe to use on all skin types and colors without risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
How do I prepare for the treatment?
Do not lay in the sun or indoor tan for one week prior to your appointment (you cannot have a sun burn prior to your appointment). Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores or warts on the targeted area.
What is the after-care?
Keep your skin hydrated: topical hydrating suggestions will be provided at your appointment. Practice good sun protection and avoid abrasive topicals or treatments for 3 days.
How many treatments do I need and how often can Micro-Needling treatments be repeated?
Although you will see results after just one Micro-Needling treatment, a series of treatments is recommended for optimal results. Micro-Needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks as needed. Full Collagen induction requires 3 treatments, while scar reduction requires between 3 and 6. 4 to 6 weeks should pass between one treatment and the next, and the number of treatments needed depends on individual cases. Micro-needling can be used on all parts of the body (neck, arms, legs, etc). Results begin to appear after the first treatment.
